A rare vintage Afghan Ersari Rug with an unusual colour palette from circa 1950. The rug features a classic Gül (elephant foot) design and is in good condition for its age. The central medallions and motifs of the piece use a charcoal black tone, and the background is in a rare gold-orange colour. Rugs such as these are very difficult to find today and were also known as Golden Afghan Rugs.
Hand knotted in wool, Golden Afghan Rugs were part of a limited quantity of Afghan Ersari Rugs and other similar designs. Due to this limited number, it is now very difficult to find one of these rugs today, but they are still very durable pieces.
With such an unusual colour combination, this Afghan Ersari Rug sits well in both contemporary and traditional spaces. Its small size makes it a great bedside rug or fireside rug.
