A fine Persian Hamadan Rug hand knotted in North West Iran. The rug features a large pole central medallion in a very deep blue colour filled with geometric flower motifs. The remaining ground of the rug is a deep red and unusual cream, again filled with geometric flowers and fronds. The borders consist of larger lozenge shapes on a dark blue ground colour, made up of majority cream and deep red tones.
Hamadan Rugs originate from in and around the city of Hamadan/Hamedan in North West Iran. The area is known for producing tribal rugs with large central medallions and geometric designs, of which this piece is a classic example. This rug was woven by highly skilled weavers from excellent quality, lustrous wool to ensure it lasts for many generations.
