A large Chinese Savonnerie Carpet handknotted in wool and with excellent furnishing colours of pale blue, cream and pink. Dating from 1966, this piece was likely made as a bespoke carpet and is longer and narrower than the standard sizes that were woven in this large production. The carpet has a 2cm thick pile, soft merino wool and an elegant design of floral sprays, vased flowers and Chinese symbols of long life and good fortune.
Chinese Savonnerie Rugs and Carpets are classic handmade rugs of the 20th century. They are known for soft woollen piles and floral detailing, and were inspired by French Savonnerie Rugs of the 19th century. Woven by skilled weavers and with excellent quality wool, this piece is very hard-wearing and soft to the touch. The rug is in very good overall condition and requires professional cleaning to remove minor marks in the pile. This cleaning will be completed prior to dispatch.
This large Chinese Savonnerie Carpet is a statement piece for large areas such as dining rooms and drawing rooms. Its mix of soft and bolder colours is suitable for both traditional and contemporary settings.
