An Antique Turkmen/Turkoman Rug hand knotted in lustrous wool in Afghanistan. The rug features a beautiful all-over Gül (or elephant foot) design in the central area, with borders of geometric flower and lozenge motifs. A rich red colour is used as the background within the rug, with each Gül motif using this colour along with cream, peach and dark blue tones to form the structure of these patterns. These colours also form the patterns within the borders, adding seamless continuity to the piece.
Turkmen or Turkoman rugs are fine tribal rugs handwoven by the nomadic Turkmen tribespeople in the Middle East. The Gül design is the iconic pattern of these rugs, using rich and deep colours. This rug has been woven by master weavers with excellent skill and is in exceptional condition. The quality of materials and craftsmanship ensure this rug is highly durable yet still soft underfoot.
This beautiful Antique Turkmen Rug is a fantastic addition to both contemporary and traditional spaces. The rug adds depth and richness to any room, especially dining rooms, bedrooms and open-plan living areas.
