An Antique Persian Malayer Rug hand knotted in northwestern Iran. The rug features an all-over geometric lozenge design in the central area, with geometric fronds and flowers in the borders. Rich red and deep blue colours contrast against cream and pink-orange tones.
Persian Malayer Rugs are from in and around the town of Malayer in Iran. These rugs can either have all-over designs or feature multiple medallions, and they use geometric floral patterns throughout. This piece was knotted by master weavers and uses excellent, lustrous wool. This gives the rug a sumptuous feel underfoot and high levels of durability. It is in good overall condition, with some wear to the pile and side binding.
This Antique Persian Malayer Rug adds depth of colour and warmth to classic spaces or minimalist living areas. The rug would sit well in open-plan sitting rooms, bedrooms, hallways or dining rooms.
