A muted Antique Persian Kashan Rug hand knotted in wool circa 1910. It has a classic diamond central medallion that feeds two smaller medallions and a more comprehensive design of flowers and fronds in both the borders and central area. The rug has a classic Kashan colour palette of deep blues, creams and reds, but the red tones are much softer and pinker than is usually the case, with each colour using natural dyes.
As is the case with many Persian Kashans, this antique rug is closely woven in wool using a Persian knot and on a cotton warp and weft. As such, the rug is still very hard wearing and retains its softness underfoot.
With a classic colour palette, intricate design and softer red tones, this Antique Kashan is a versatile rug and can be well placed in many different settings. Living rooms and dining rooms with classic features are a good match for this piece.
