An Antique Persian Bakshaish Rug hand knotted in northwestern Iran. The rug features a grand central blossom medallion filled with smaller blossom motifs and palmettes. These patterns continue in the central area and borders, with the addition of fine frond motifs. Unusually vibrant pink and green colours are used within the piece, with the addition of cream and sky blues as a contrast to these bold tones.
Persian Bakshaish Rugs are woven around 50 kilometres away from the city of Tabriz, and are known for their geometric-floral designs, usually featuring a grand medallion. This rug was woven with excellent quality, lustrous wool, making it very hardwearing and soft to the touch. This piece is in good overall condition, with some pile wear and patches of repair in the central area and borders.
This Antique Persian Bakshaish Rug is a stand-out piece and would be the focal point for any space. The rug would take pride of place in living rooms, dining rooms or entrance halls.
