An extravagant Antique English Axminster Carpet hand knotted circa 1910. The carpet features a grand and ornate central medallion surrounded by a strong pink ground colour and sprays of flowers and fronds in the borders. Combinations of gold, blue and pink tones give a classic, traditional carpet design a maximalist feel.
Handmade Axminster Rugs and Carpets date back to the nineteenth century and are the counterparts of Aubusson and Savonnerie Rugs made in France in the same era. This highly adorned carpet was woven with care by skilled weavers in England circa 1910 from excellent wool. As such, it is still in very good overall condition with light signs of wear.
This Antique English Axminster Carpet is a strong design statement in any room, perfect for large entertaining spaces such as drawing rooms and dining rooms.
