A detailed Antique Caucasian Sarab Runner hand knotted circa 1850. This runner features an intricate geometric floral design bordered by further geometric flowers and a final plain border. Deep blue tones are used for the ground colour of the rug, with varying shades of red, cream and brown tones forming the floral patternation.
Sarab Rugs and Runners are usually woven in the North West of Iran in the Azerbaijan province, but they were also woven with Sarab designs in the Caucasus mountains. Both regions are mountainous and sit at high altitudes. This Sarab runner is knotted in fine wool by skilled weavers and has a rarer all-over design. The quality of the wool and weavers' skill has ensured its longevity, and it is still in very good condition today with only small areas of wear.
This Antique Caucasian Sarab Runner would be a statement piece in large hallways, bedrooms and living rooms with classic, rich colours and fine patternation.
