Afghan Kazak Runner

A classic Afghan Kazak Runner with a rich red ground colour very much in the style of this design type. The red background allows the lighter, intricate motifs to stand out by providing a contrast.There are seven central medallions within the runner of alternating star and horizontal diamond motifs, and the geometric flowers in the borders are joined together by diagonal lines. The royal blue, cream and light green colours used for these design features were also used in earlier Caucasian Kazak Rugs, which influenced modern Kazak rugs today.The border frames the central area of the runner as the multi,directional lines draw the eye towards each medallion. The colour of each medallion also alternates, with each star using mainly cream tones and each diamond primarily using blue tones. Smaller lozenges in blue and green also sit between each of these medallions.Afghan Kazak Runners are of excellent quality, and this is enhanced by the Afghan wool used when hand knotting, adding durability and a lustrous shine. This piece is best suited to spaces with richer colours and eclectic design features, but it can also be used to make a statement or provide a focal point for more minimalist rooms.
