Project overview
Occupying five Georgian townhouses in the hustle and bustle of Soho London, Soho House’s Greek Street 40 is a private members club catering to young creatives looking for a versatile space to meet friends, eat good food, relax and occasionally party!
SH clubs are globally renowned for their historic locations and inspirational interiors, incorporating modern art with bespoke and curated vintage design pieces. London House Rugs had the pleasure of adding more classical elements to the raffishly elegant Greek Street venue, with a special collection of vintage and tribal antique rugs.
Tucked away in a corner of this iconic venue is the second-floor informal dining space, where the mood is created by a signature collection of contemporary, art, orange velvet sofas and vintage armchairs covered in abstract 70s fabric.
London House worked with the SH design team to choose an equally bold piece that would help bring these elements together. This Afghan Sultanabad rug has a lustrous wool pile and features large Acanthus leaf motifs that nod to the Arts & Crafts inspiration of the design.
The large expressive design synthesises well with the armchairs while the background complements the sofa. This is a great example of how two contradicting patterns can work well together when executed correctly..
View Fine Afghan Feraghan RugIn another cosy corner of Greek Street 40 stand two burly vintage sofas covered with black leather and bronze studding. Although there’s an open fire welcoming guests, London House injected some extra warmth and texture with a stunning Antique Persian Heriz rug.
Naturally dyed in Persian blue and red colours, this Antique Heriz features a large central stepped medallion, the sharp lines of which, create geometric shapes typically found on rugs handwoven by tribesmen circa 1920 and make for an eye catching focal point.
When placing pieces of furniture on top of a rug, a Heriz is a great choice- they come in large sizes and are well known for their thick, colourful and repeating borders. These charismatic antique pieces will pack a punch of colour even when the majority of the rug is covered.
View Antique Persian Heriz RugAs you enter the second-floor reception area, you’re greeted by a pair of vintage leather chairs in a space filled with music from a nearby piano. True to the Soho House style, the distressed leather and original hardwood floor exude Gentleman's club vibes, so an antique rug with a knocked back texture seemed apt for this occasion.
This Antique Persian Khotan was hand knotted by Turkestan tribesmen circa 1910 and its condition is still robust, considering its age. This Khotan showcases a Herati design in deep navy-blue colours and brown geometric floral patterns, with a border of repeating heart shapes- romance is certainly not dead at London House and it now makes a great spot for some loving tunes on the ivories!❤️
View Khotan RugsThe circle bar is a place where you can relax with a drink and take in some culture with the 40-40-40 art collection showcasing a gallery of art work by forty artists under the age of forty.
This long stretch of velvety comfort and pastel tones required a long bespoke piece that was neither rug nor runner, so instead of limiting creativity with awkward measurements, London House designed a striking bespoke rug with an all over Ikat design, handmade using wool and bamboo silk. This bespoke piece was installed by a specialist team who work around the columns ensuring the finishes were clean and the seams entirely invisible. We regularly work around fixed architectural features, whether a bar, a Doric column or a sculptural installation, we have wide ranging expertise across our team.
