Antique Caucasian Shield Rug

An Antique Caucasian Shield Rug with vibrant primary colours. This rug features eight octagonal medallions filled with lozenge motifs. Each medallion is surrounded by a border containing bottehs or a 'compartment border'. Vibrant reds, sky and dark blues and rich yellows bring each compartment to life by creating direct contrasts within each design area.

Caucasian Rugs are from the areas within and surrounding the Caucasus Mountains. They are traditionally finely woven rugs of woollen construction. This little rug is finely knotted by hand with a woollen pile and was created by master weavers. The rug has some areas of wear but is in very good overall condition.
