A fine Afghan Sultanabad Rug hand knotted with lustrous wool in Afghanistan. The rug features an intricate all-over design of large palmettes, flowers and fronds through the central areas, with these patterns continuing into the borders. A rich cream is used as the background colour, with golds, deep and pale blues, reds and beiges delineating the delicate floral patterns. This rug requires professional cleaning and additional stain removal across the pile. The rug also has a little hole around 6cm x 2cm in one of the borders. The condition of this rug is reflected in the price, but we can also clean, remove stains and repair the rug for an additional fee - contact us if this would be of interest.
Afghan Sultanabad Rugs are fine pieces, and their designs are based on Persian Sultanabad Rugs from the 19th century. These pieces are floral in nature, with either all-over patterns or featuring central medallions. This rug was woven by master weavers, and in combination with the excellent quality wool, this has made the rug highly durable and soft underfoot.
This Afghan Sultanabad Rug is a beautiful, muted piece and a versatile feature. The rug sits well in both contemporary and traditional settings, especially open-plan living areas, bedrooms and dining rooms.
